The person I spoke with at Xfinity (It was Comcast’s general number) said they needed to transfer me to the correct department. The phone disconnected. I called again, and spoke another representative. I asked “What company manufactures your equipment?” He said, “I’m not sure.” I asked, “Well then can you tell me about your contracts?” “Our contracts, give me one second. I can look that up for you. It depends on what package.” What depends?” “What options,” disconnected again. I took notes.

Went back to Xfinity Home Security web page. Looked it over again closely. I found a number, and called. The other folks I spoke with were not very friendly. The woman I spoke this time was helpful. She was willing to find the information I needed.

She said the equipment door sensors, motion detectors, (keypad) manufactured by Visionic.

It was listed on the London Stock Exchange (main list) (LSE) in 2004, as well as on the official list of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) in 2006. Acquired by Tyco in 2011, Visonic is now a private company.

Visionic is a good company. It’s been around a long time. Only problem is most home security technicians are not familiar with Visionic. Most install GE Security or Honeywell Security equipment. GE and Honeywell are American companies.  Tyco International Ltd. is a Swiss company incorporated in Switzerland.

The representative said the cameras were from iControl out of Philadelphia. If you Google “iControl Philadelphia” I found this:

The salespeople at FrontPoint Security were extremely knowledgable friendly. When I called a human being answered the phone. I did not have to wait and go through any automated prompts. They clearly gave me information about their contracts, equipment, monitoring, remote access, fees and pricing. FrontPoint guarantees their rates through the life of the contracts. The contracts are month-to-month at the end of the contract term. Comcast’s rates are only guarantee for the first two years even though their contracts are for three years.

Bottom Line:

Whenever I call FrontPoint. I speak to a human being immediately. I’ve never been transferred or disconnected. And the people I speak with are always courteous, knowledgeable, and pleasant. They don’t seem overwhelmed or irritated.

FrontPoint only uses GE Security equipment. 80% of the equipment on commercial airliners made by GE. It’s a company you can trust and its proven itself. Making home security equipment for more than 30 years. Plus technicians are familiar with GE Security equipment.

FrontPoint guarantees their rates will never go up during the life of the contract. I’m a Comcast internet and phone customer. I have to call every so many months because I find my rates have gone up.

Also a big concern is security. Unfortunately Xfinity’s system connects to the outside world through your IP address (their Comcast modem) Based on the story which came out of the Black Hat convention by Kashmir Hill this years 2013 in Las Vegas we know security systems which use your IP address are vulnerable to hackers. Here’s a link to Kashmir Hill’s article  When ‘Smart Homes’ Get Hacked: I Haunted A Complete Stranger’s House Via The Internet”. I’ve spoken with people from Comcast and a Comcast technician. Xfinity’s security systems say they are “cellular backup” that means they are only cellular during a power outage. Otherwise they are communicating through the IP address. FrontPoint Security is 100% cellular using Alarm.com. I interviewed two people from alarm.com over the phone. They went into details of their security features. They asked me not to share details. But needless to say not even a alarm.com employee at any level can get access to their customer’s account.
